We are currently living in the era of globalization, where we all know that English has become an international language that plays a crucial role in both education and the professional world. The ability to speak English has become one of the main bridges to broader opportunities, especially in building a professional career. We cannot deny that, in this era of globalization, competition in the job market has become increasingly intense. Workers are no longer competing only with others from their own country, but also with those from neighboring and foreign countries.

So, what happens if we have many skills but cannot speak English?

The fact is, in our country, there are many people who possess multiple abilities—some may even be called multitalented. However, without realizing it, all those skills may feel incomplete without the ability to communicate in English. But why is that so?

Nowadays, many workplaces have made English a mandatory requirement for anyone who wishes to apply for a job. Almost all companies in Indonesia now engage in communication or collaboration with foreign companies. If you only showcase your abilities in various fields—especially when applying to large corporations—but are not fluent in English, then your chances of being accepted or retained for a long period of time will be very small.

However, the inability to speak English does not completely prevent you from finding a job. This one shortcoming should not stop you from continuing to learn. You can train yourself through small daily habits—such as listening to English songs, reading short English quotes, or watching English-language films. Through these small steps, you can gradually begin to understand English vocabulary word by word.

So, don’t be afraid and don’t tell yourself that it’s too late. If you already possess many skills, complete them by mastering English. This will ensure that you are not left behind by the rapid development of the modern world. It will make you someone who is one step ahead and more prepared to face the professional challenges of the future. You only need to refine yourself a little more to become even more complete.

Therefore, don’t say, “It’s okay, I already have enough skills even if I can’t speak English.”

Instead, change that mindset into, “By mastering the skill of speaking English, all the other skills within me will become complete—allowing me to seize every job opportunity and career path that lies ahead.”
